I believe that we should not bring back extinct species. I think that we should not bring back extinct animals because we would be creating something that is completely artificial. Also I think that people should not bring back extinct species because we would be bringing back animals that have been dead for awhile. This could cause unpredictable problems that we may not be able to forsee, therefore I do not think we should bring back extinct species.

Dear Diary,
I am a strong believer in not bringing back extinct species from the dead. Whenever something has died, we must move on from the past and let nature takes its course. Besides, if you bring back something from the dead, you don't know the types of abilities it possesses and how it can use those abilities against society. In Jurassic Park, the dinosaurs were on a rampage to kill all the humans and if you brought back extinct species that same thing could happen again. The only humans that we want to kill are the Natzis... Scientists are intelligent enough to know that humans should not mess with the balance of nature and its environment. I just really hope I just hope I don't see any T-Rex's outside the annex any time soon... More tomorrow...

Love,

Anne

I believe that we should not bring back extinct species. They died for a reason, and we must think about why they died to decide if it is worth it to bring it back. These species might be dangerous, and we need to think about ourselves in this controversial debate. It would not be best for us to revive a species that is already extinct, it might even be harmful. The only people it would be beneficial to is scientists, but otherwise, species that are extinct should stay that way.

I think that bringing back extinct animals isn't such a great idea. And not because we would be "playing god" How would we reintroduce an animal back into it's natural environment, especially since they would have been raised in captivity all it's life. If you put a mammoth that's grown up in a lab in the arctic it's gonna be like "What the H? Where are my 2 square meals a day?" The article also brought up and important point. We already have endangered species. Why waste time with experiments that might not even be successful, when we can use that money to help save those that are endangered. SAVE THE PANDAS!

I totally do not think we should bring back extinct animals. There is a reason for the death of extinct animals and even if we do bring them back, the conditions of their death will arise again one day and they will all die again. Also, trying to bring back extinct animals is really expensive. Our state would definitely try to save the endangered species rather than bringing back the extinct species with our money. Not that I don't care for the extinct species, but I care more for the endangered species.

I really don't think that scientists should bring back extinct species. I mean, everything happens for a reason, right? If God did not want that animal to live in this world anymore, then He took the animal out. Maybe because it was suffering greatly. Maybe because He had something better that he wanted to introduce to the world. This is kinda where natural selection comes into play. The animals that were not fit to survive on Earth died out, cause something better was gonna come along. Yea, bringing back extinct species is not the best idea ever. It would be like putting a wooly mammoth in the middle of Rodeo Drive. disbelief

This process of de-extinction sounds like a lovely idea. It would be quite interesting to give all these species a second chance, especially when some have gone extinct at the hand of humans. If it were possible and enough evidence proved it to be, trying this out would be a wonderful experiment. Plus, we would still have plenty of time and research put into endangered species to help them out as well. It's not as if we would just forget about them completely. You Americans might not have enough money to spend on the research, but I'm sure we would be able to fund this research. Excluding those factors, you must ask yourself, why not attempt to rewrite the course of nature?

Since the beginning of time species have fallen into the abyss of death. Their hearts did not cease to beat because they were fit. they died because they were not fit for their environment. Bringing them back to the land of the living would merely lead to their 2nd extinction.

Well I think it would be so cool to bring back old species!  I mean some of those poor animals went extinct because of humans!  Plus, since my old dog ran away I think it would be so fun to have a baby Woolly Mammoth:) they are so cute!  Have you seen them in Ice Age?  Also, a Saber Tooth Tiger would have come in handy on my Circus tour! "All the eyes on me in the center of the ring just like a circusss, when I pop that whip my Saber Tooth flips just like a circuss!!"

HI! BILLY MAYS HERE AND I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD BRING EXTINCT SPECIES BACK FROM THE DEAD. YOU ASK WHY? BECAUSE NOT OOONLYY IS IT JUST PLAIN WRONG, BUT WE ALLLSOO DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE BRING THEM BACK. WOULD THEY GO ON A RAMPAGE AND KILLL HUMANS OR WOULD THEY JUST BECOME PART OF THE CROWD. I DON'T THINK I WANT TO FIND OUT. BUT WAIT, THERES MORE! THESE SPECIES WENT EXTINCT FOR A REASON AND SOME SPECIES WENT EXTINCT BECAUSE OF HUMANS, BUT IF WE DON'T CHANGE THOSE SPECIES WILL GO EXTINCT AGAIN AND THAT WILL BE SAD. SO, I DON'T WANT THE DE-EXTINCTION PROCESS TO START.

In my opinion we should bring them back. After all we caused them to die. Besides if we can then the arguments of helping the endagered instead would not hold up because if they go extinct then we can simply "revive" them again. For those whp are religious just think about it. If god is after all real then his teachings say don't kill. We have murdered many species and i think god would want us to bring them back and give them lives that we destroyed. It is logical and a good use of science because it will be a huge step and if we can think of cures we could make. For all you know the cure to cancer is somewhere down this path. Besides, we dont have to bring them all back. For example, dinosaurs we should not because we did not cause them to go extinct and bringing them back would be a dangerous dicision. The dodo bird though would most likely cause no harm. There will always be people poaching endagered animals no matter how many laws go down. This shows if we cannot always keep them alive why not give them a chance back when reckless people come along and ruin the world. Therefore, if they die naturaly i agree let them die Morgan Freeman is right there, but if we killed them out i believe it is our job to bring them back.

bringing back an animal from the dead is not the work of my God. There is a reason why the God has caused its extinction and it will never be reversed. this creature was a nuisance to the world and it was placed down by the hands of my God. now i don't what this creature did to deserve this, only the one above knows all. Plus these extinct creatures are potentially dangerous to us.

As a follower of Hinduism, de-extinction should not be allowed. This is because species have died for a reason, and this do interfere with my view on religion. Also some animals might be provacative to humans. They might be used to modern earth. Also where would we place them so that it won't affect the food web of that area. So I am against the "revival" of extinct species.

I highly disapprove of the idea of bringing back dead organisms. This would be humans trying to play god, which is never a good thing. Besides most animals that are extinct have been so for so long that heir adaptations have become absolutely useless in this changing world. Their ecosystems are most likely destroyed as well. I like what Morgan said earlier:"Bringing back dead animals to the land of the living would merely lead to their 2nd extinction". I am coming after anyone who disagrees with me on this matter. (I'm talking to you Bill Gates and Britney Spears).

First of all, I think this needs to be cleared up: Tasmanian tigers can't eat anything bigger than them, and a lot were mistakenly killed for 'attacking' sheep. Whether or not the tiger was in the hen house or not, clearly Batty doesn't really have anything preventing anything from getting in and out. It also doesn't say anything about if any hens were actually killed either. As of my opinion on resurrecting animals, scientifically I say it is a bad idea. From what I learned over these days aboard, animals adapt correspondingly with a specie(s) that prey upon it or live alongside it. So if the animals that lived with the extinct animal have changed dramatically, then they won't fit in like they used to. It's like adding rabbits to Australia.

To be honest, i do not like the idea of bringing back new species. I think the world has gone too long with some extinct animals, that we wouldnt know what to do with them if they came back. Sometimes the past should just be the past. There is a reason why they are extinct, and there is really no reason why they should come back onto this planet of ours.

I think that we should bring back some extinct species, but only the ones that we wiped out. We shouldn't let scientists bring back whatever they want but that they should look into the subject. More research should be done on what the environmental impact of bringing a species back from extinction before we actually do it. I can see why some people wouldn't agree with me and I understand that it is still very controversial, raising serious ethical and religious questions.

In my opinion, we should not bring extinct animals back. Obviously, they died for a reason. Natural selection occured and the organisms weren't suited to live in the enviroment that was present. If we somehow did bring back some of these organisms, the food chain would be all out of wack. It would be more of a hassle than it's worth. We should prevent the sick animals from becoming extinct instead of going back to save the irrelevant ones that aren't around anymore. If we were to make anything from DNA, we should make some mermaids... quite beautiful creatures actually... Beware though.. they are nasty creatures! Lure you in.... just to kill you..

No, I do not support extinct animals being revived because sooner or later they will be extinct again. Because that most of them are mainly exotic, poachers are most likely going to start back up again. I also feel that it is not natural to bring back something that has already died off. The species already had a hard time surviving before, but making them go through it a second time would be additionally extremely cruel!

I do not think that we should bring back extinct animals. The idea of "cheating death" is improbable because if we bring them back, we would have to put them in an environment where they could survive. For most extinct animals, we don't know what their environment was and it would be a long and tedious practice of trial and error to get them in the right environment to keep them from going extinct all over again. It would be like taking the Hungarian Horntail out of Hungary and expecting it to survive without a someone who studie dragons like Charlie Weasely.

We should not bring back extinct species because we are very limited on resources and space. If a species has does out we must carry forth with our lives. If we brought back these exotic animals they would eventually be extinct again because of mankind. We need to keep things the way they naturally are.

I believe that bringing back extinct species wouldn't be such a great idea. After all, Joe, my previous boyfriend you guys all know him, said that animals go extinct because of humans half the time! I think we need to prevent animals from going extinct instead of trying to fix your mistakes. Mistakes are meant to be learned from, not changed! :::))))

K. To be honest, people need to move on with their lives. Obvi if a species is all dead, it wants to be left the poop alone!  Stop trying to bring back the past. Ugh why is everyone so annoying? There's a reason time goes forward, not backward. Quit trying to live in some alternate 4th dimensional world where time goes backwards. Even if everything is fine and dandy with reviving it, it wants to stay DEAD.  There's already 5 million kabillion species and animals. STAHHHP.   Rant=over.

I think the idea of bringing back extinct animals is extremely interesting.  It is a fascinating example of modern technology.  It has the potential to correct some of the damage that is done by humans, by bringing back species that we have caused to go extinct.  With care, and controls, we might be able to utilize this technique to improve our planet, our lives, and perhaps even humankind.

Although I love science and studying animals, I don't think bringing back extinct animals would be a good idea. They went extinct for a reason, and bringing them back would be unwise. The same reasons that could have caused them to go extinct in the first place could cause these animals to go extinct again. The funding that would have been used for this project would be much more beneficial helping the endangered species instead. Also, like the article said, how will the animals adapt to their new environment? The world has enough problems already; the last thing we need are a bunch of mammoths traipsing around KNOCKING DOWN MY LAB STOOLS. However, it would be kind of cool to name a species... Peachus Butteaus New-Kidsum-on-the-Blockii?

No. Bringing back extinct species has 3 huge flaws. First they were extinct.for a reason, they weren't fit to live so why would we bring them back. Also if we did recreate these species than we would be blatantly going against our god.lastly with my experince as president I know how expensive a project like this would be. So overall its just a big np for me

I do not think scientists should bring back extinct animals. Their species are dead for a reason, and humans need not mess with the cycle of life and death. Besides even if scientists actually managed this feat, how do they know that the species would fit back into their old environments? If scientists really wanted to accomplish something astounding, they should focus on helping the animals that are about to go exstinct, not the animals that already have.
